Learning with disabilities.

Hi All,

I know the DVLA needs to be notified of a disability that could effect your ability to drive. However my question is, does a potential student legally have to let their instructor know if they have a disability that could effect there ability to learn in the first place? And the DVLA?

Hi
This is the list of medical conditions and disabilities which may or may not (depending on severity) require notification.
https://www.gov.uk/health-conditions-and-driving

You might need some imagination to find what you are looking for.
ie i couldn't find Missing Limbs, but there is an entry for Amputations
Sight in one Eye come under Vision.
etc

Re: Learning with disabilities.

Thanks, but it doesn’t really answer the question. Yes they may have to the DVLA, but do they have to tell them to learn to drive? And do they have to inform there instructor of any medical conditions?

Re: Learning with disabilities.

Hi
Well: as they have to have a licence in order to learn to drive, surely anything which appears on that list is to be declared if it says so when you access the relevant page.
There may be occasions when it is difficult to tell if they have the severity requiring notification in which case I would suggest they take the relevant page to their medical practitioner and ask them.

As for telling  their instructor, I doubt there is a legal responsibility to do so. Though it would be somewhat stupid not to.
