Pupil who smokes cannabis

Hi

My student happened to mention today that he smokes cannabis. I've never smelt it on him but was concerned when he told me, we had a chat about the effects of drug driving and then he casually mentioned it only takes a few hours for the effects to wear off. I've read it can take about 12 hours for the effects to wear off but that it can stay in your system for a lot longer than this.

I'm now worried that he may say he's not smoked anything for a few days but if he has smoked the night before or a few hours previously he's putting everyone at risk, my insurance would be "null & void" on evidence of drugs and I could be prosecuted.

Any advice on this would be very much appreciated.
