Role play to stop?

I was talking to a senior DSA person recently who said that examiner role play will cease soon on check tests, anyone heard anything similar?

Yes, it's a proposal from DSA.

So it may happen sometime in the next 10 years.

Re: Role play to stop?

I would still have the ex. drive on a fleet CT, though, but he/she could play him/herself rather than the usual "company car driver".  Would that fit in with the new standard?

Re: Role play to stop?

So if role play is deemed unsuitable for a CT, does this mean they are thinking about scraping it for the ADI Part 3?

Re: Role play to stop?

The whole qualification process will change under 'modernising driver training'.

It was in Despatch a while ago, and there's a snippet in the link I posted. I think the idea is that it will become a formal qualification like an NVQ.

Re: Role play to stop?

I would wager, changing the name and the form will be as far as it gets, they say it will, "reinforce the need for Risk Management", which sounds trendy and and will give the apearence that something has been changed to improve road safety, and all at a very small cost. Basicaly just ticking different boxes with different names.

Re: Role play to stop?

Dsa have only just started to learn about fleet training, that's where the risk assessment has come from. i know examiners who do role play fleet check test and openly admit they've no idea what right or wrong because DSA have not given them sufficient training for it, the whole lot is a farce. mad

Re: Role play to stop?

Hi many people on this forum have said in past posts that things will never change. I have to agree with those people, i doubt things will ever change despite all the empty promises DSA make.

Don't rush DSA.  It will let us know as soon as it can.  It's still thinking about when to tell us about the internet only theory test booking system, which started five weeks ago.

.. and there I was thinking my SE knew his stuff since he liked how I crammed lots of risk management into my last role-play CT.  Or is it simply always too easy to suggest that the DSA don't know a from e?
Maybe he's a rare beast knowing about consequences and benefits - but it's hardly difficult to get up to speed on that, is it?

This is not the fastest organisation around.

When they decided to inform candidates that they could be accompanied on test, it took them six months to train the examiners to say "Would you like your instructor to accompany you?".

In any normal (commercial, private sector) organisation all it would have needed was a e-mail telling them of the trivial change of procedure, with the inevitable follow-up action for those who don't respond. A few weeks at most.

Re: Role play to stop?

if they did do that what would happen if your no longer in the industry but would like to keep your badge in case you go back to it one day.you'd be forced to take a family member or friend because you'd have no clients.
