Re: Straight 6’s

I had let him drive initially just so I could see what he can do, then pulled up for a very short chat.  Remember this is a qualified driver with lot of experience and must not make him feel inferior in any way. There can be so many reasons why people become disqualified that you just want to raise his self esteem, and make him/her feel good about what they are doing. I did a P Park, but never had another go just explained the correct obs and any errors that an examiner would pick on. Mentioned that on subsequent lessons we'll practice few more times as well as all the other maneuvers.  The timing on return to TC was precise to the minute. Somehow I have this precise body clock... Good luck

Re: Straight 6’s

Just have to say this is a brilliant gold mine of info!! I've chosen extended retest pupil for my roleplay check test and only stumbled across this thread yesterday - it is SO hopeful and reassuring.

Well done on the straight 6's, stunning result! I'll follow your advice and if I don't get exactly the same result I know who to blame  big_smile big_smile big_smile

Blimey, I've just realised this is thread is from 2008.

Re: Straight 6’s

Got a question, I know it was years ago but what questions did you ask at the beginning?

My current ones are :

How many years driving?
Did you enjoy driving? Confident?
What led to disqualification? Establish reason.
How long’s it been since last drive?
What need driver training/licence for? Job? Children? Establish incentive.

Hi,

How many years driving? - ok to ask but not as important as how many miles a year (approx) and areas driven ie town/country/motorway

Did you enjoy driving? - past tense and I would maybe ask 'Do you enjoy driving?'

Confident? - wouldn't ask but asking him to scale himself on a 1 to 10 or 0 to 10 scale with ten being high and then asking why he feels or thinks that score is more meaningful and you can then link back to this after your session to see if he still thinks the same score was accurate and where he thinks his score is now and why and what score would he like to be and why and what does he need to to to get there.

What led to disqualification? Establish reason. - may not answer but you can ask and then ask how he feels about it now and how felt at the time and would he have done anything different.

How long’s it been since last drive? - I would ask openly have you driven since your ban was up and did you drive anytime during it and in what circumstances if he has. Also emphasise it is important to know and you are not here to judge him but will help the training session.

What need driver training/licence for? Job? Children? Establish incentive. - ok to ask but also get him to think how not having it has had an impact on job, children, family etc.

Re: Straight 6’s

Looks like a good idea. I have a check test on 17th October 2012 - fingers crossed - have requested roleplay. Had decided to request DL25 CT - may change my mind and follow your suggestion......
