Yelp and Apple

I've just seen that Apple is going to update all it's software and will no longer being using Google's map system when locating businesses.  It will instead be using Yelp.  This is like Google Local (google maps with business listings)  If you aren't on Yelp you can create a fee account.  If you're on it, but haven't claimed you business, you should, then you can enter further details.

I don't think Yelp is that good, or even that big in the UK, but with Apple using it as their default business search engine, it would make sense to be listed.  It will get bigger and more popular in the near future.

Re: Yelp and Apple

Yelp is a very good directory to list your Driving School on it, especially if you have a web-site. This listing will assist in your site ranking higher in google search. And if its used by Apple that can only improve your ranking on google and local apple search.

Re: Yelp and Apple

Newrose,

There is no doubting that the more places you leave your details out on the web, the more google will be able to find those links back to you making you look important, especially with a well know directory like Yelp (having a page rank of 5 itself), I just don't think it's very good.  For instance, I've just typed in driving instructors in bristol BS9 (my post code area) and the first 3 things listed aren't driving schools.  Hence not very good.

For more tips on SEO, other than just get your site listed in directories, have a look at this tool, lots of it is very simple to follow and will help boost you in the eyes of google.  I just had a look at your site and there are  few simple things you could do to tighten your site up.  With a page rank of three however, you're doing something right! Good luck.

Re: Yelp and Apple

I've been reading a little more about Yelp and it's listing power.  Plus how it ranks you and how easy it is to get promoted and sadly my fears we're right.  This article helps back my conclusions on Yelp.
