I'll be starting on a trainee license soon. I'm being sponsored, but not on a franchise. Instead, I'll be paying per pupil provided to me.
What's the average going rate I should expect to pay per pupil?
Is this something that should be declared on your annual accounts?
If you have costs for both declared and non-declared, then I'd be grateful of the advice.
Passed Part 1 - 08/12/09. 2nd attempt 99/65
Passed Part 2 - 20/01/10. 1st attempt 'Zero Faults'
Passed Part 3 - 29/06/10. 1st attempt 4 - 5

That's a strange question. When you are self employed you should declare every business transaction, in and out, in your accounts.

Ok... I'll re-phrase the question: -
How much would you normally expect to pay an independent SOM for each pupil they provide to you?

Hi All
I will soon be starting on a trainee license. I will not be on a franchise with my sponsoring independent SOM, by instead they will charge me for each pupil they provide me with.
Just so that I know I''ll be paying a fair price, please could you let me know what I should expect to pay on a Pay Per Pupil basis?
Look forward to hearing from you all

I would say somewhere in the region of £20-£40 would be fair. The biggest problem with paying per pupil, is sometimes you'll get a pupil who takes a lesson, then decides to go elsewhere. You've spent £30 (for example), taken £20. However most of the time people will stay if you do your job well

in this area, the norm is £25-£30 there are a few who do this

typically, i'd expect the fee to be equal to the lesson price of 1-2 hours

The agrement i have is i only pay for the pup after he or she has had 2 or more lessons works ok for me that way it gives you a chance of making some cash if the pup goes elsware
i need more cash not more work

You need to make sure you pay after the pupil had at least 2 lessons, otherways it's not worthing

didn't know there was such thing as paying per pupil
are there schools out there that "sell" pupils to independent instructors (ADI's)

I don't pay for pupils but if I were then I would only pay out of profit from that pupil i.e. after they have had two or three hours of lessons.

Paying for a service where pupils are referred to you is a business choice.
The value of this service is subjective and as with many things in business there are rarely guarantees.
I'd advise anyone to use your business head and choose to use a service because you believe it is right for you and should deliver what you are looking for, sometimes trialling a service can help.
Furthermore remember that no level of service can account for the free will that we all have which can mean:
a referred pupil may not turn into profit
the service provider may offer the same pupil to others
the price you pay for the service can vary depending on what is being offered
You also need to understand that often you play a significant role in whether the referral turns into financial success.
regards
Paddy

Hi,
A very good reply and I would add that ADIs need to understand that most of the time they play a significant role not only whether the referrral turns into financial success but whether they do.

I can only find my self agreeing with the comment above.
