International driving licence

Ive been asked an interesting question before we joined the EU what happened about driving licence did the nonext UK licence holders have to retake thier test? I wasn't  a driving instructor then please can anyone help me?

No, it was exactly the same as now for non EU drivers.
A year on own countries licence.

Beyond that take UK test, same as now.
