Anyone know how to remove hardened chewing gum from car mat?

Re: Chewing gum on car mat

I got these from the internet via ask.com (see links below).
Common replies are: freeze with ice (or put mat in freezer) and break off, use peanut butter (??), use WD-40.
Not too sure about the last two, I can envisage follow questions such as "now how do I get peanut butter out of the carpet?" or "How do I get the WD-40 out of the carpet?"

I agree with Zipper, and it works, freeze the mat in freezer and the gum will peel off. smile

Will give the freeze method a go, don't fancy car reeking of WD-40 and hate peanut butter :-)

Re: Chewing gum on car mat

Looks like Giz has tied the freezer method with success, but tell us how it went anyway.
If the carpet can't be removed, apparently the ice has to be left to work for about 20 minutes.

Don't you find that peanut butter sticks to the roof of you mouth? - ugh!  No wonder the Americans add "jelly" to their peanut butter sandwiches.
One of the links (I didn't include this one in my post) suggested that to prevent repeat occurrences, thump the you-know-what out of the person who deposited the gum in the first place (assuming it's not your good self smile )

The ice thing works as long as you leave it for long enough. Put it in a poly bag to avoid a soggy mat.

Car mat is now tucked between frozen chicken and pizza, just hope no one comes in drunk tonight and mistakes it for a thin base pizza  smile

Well seems to have worked. Didn't manage to remove it completely but a huge improvement on what it was.
