Re: Fleet trainer numbers on DSA Register.

And how many are actively involved in "fleet" in the bulk of their diary/work and how many have not recouped their investment?
My fleet badge from 6.5 years ago is numbered 1129.

Re: Fleet trainer numbers on DSA Register.

Seen someone with 1700ish and he's been fleet for about 2 years, but as Ralge pointed out, not all of these will be gainfully employed delivering the training.

Re: Fleet trainer numbers on DSA Register.

According to the freedom of information act on the DSA website there were 2270 fleet trainers on the 4/11/10.

Re: Fleet trainer numbers on DSA Register.

I think quite a few have jumped on the 'Fleet' bandwagon expecting great things and have ended up disappointed.

I don't it has helped that some training companies have also jumped on the same bandwagon offering courses of questionable worth, to people who don't really understand the market.

Re: Fleet trainer numbers on DSA Register.

A survey of all ADI's qualifications and work patterns/splits by the DSA could be very useful for prospective fleet trainers, LGV, B+E etc.
A smaller-sample survey on a Forum such as this might also be quite informative.
I would be interested to know how many ADI full day work equivalents are spread across the 3000 fleet registered pool.
Put me down for 5 days out of 6 as "fleet".

Do you work 6 days a week regularly?

Re: Fleet trainer numbers on DSA Register.

If I can go by what a knowledgeable and well-connected chap told me and a few others on Friday, the fleet register had shrunk back to something like 1500.
The reasons, I guess:
- lots of fleet trainers get little or absolutely no fleet work.
- companies cut back on training in a recession anyway, so the big nationals are not increasing the size of the pool of trainers on their books (their first port of call is frequently on-line RA's and/or e-learning
- getting own-account fleet work is quite hard and doesn't get turned on just by having a fleet badge
- renewing a fleet badge (£120) is difficult to justify if fleet hasn't contributed much of your income since qualifying
- a fleet CT is a bit of a pain if fleet training is still "abnormal" for both ADI and examiner
